From 2012 through 2021, Cynthia Spurgat Jacobson published more than 300 articles through G-GLISP — Genealogy for German Lutherans in Suwalki Province. The blog documented her research into the history, genealogy, records, migrations, communities, and families of the German Lutheran population of Lithuania and the former Suwalki Province.
The International Association of Germans from Lithuania has preserved these articles as the G-GLISP Archive so that Cynthia’s research remains available to family historians, genealogists, scholars, and future generations.
About the Archive
These articles are preserved substantially as Cynthia originally published them between 2012 and 2021. They reflect the information, terminology, sources, and research conclusions available to her at the time each article was written.
Some subjects were revisited as new records became available or Cynthia’s research developed. Readers should therefore treat the collection as a chronological research archive rather than as a single, continuously revised reference work.
Original publication dates, illustrations, tables, document excerpts, and article series have been retained wherever possible.

About Cynthia Spurgat Jacobson
Cynthia Spurgat Jacobson’s interest in the Germans of Lithuania began with the history of her own Spurgat family. Over decades of research, that family-history project grew into a much broader investigation of German Lutheran communities in Lithuania, Suwalki Province, and neighboring East Prussia.
Her work has included Lutheran church registers, Polish and Russian civil records, archival collections, migration records, historical maps, family documents, wartime resettlement records, displaced-person materials, and research into the villages and communities where German families once lived.
In 2012, Cynthia created G-GLISP as a place to share her discoveries and research methods with others investigating the same community. The blog became an important resource for researchers of Germans from Lithuania and ultimately formed part of the foundation for the work continued today by the International Association of Germans from Lithuania.
